Oxford Gender Equality Festival 2010

Why Come?

The Gender Equality Festival is a forum where we hope people will find answers to challenging questions.  These questions might come from yourself, or from others involved in the festival.  Here are some questions we'd like answered - please add your own, and any suggestions for answers to questions posted.

- What does being "feminine" mean? What about being "masculine"?

- What makes a woman a woman? Is it just a biological category, or is it more than that?

- How come girls can be proud of being tomboys, but boys will be bullied by everyone for liking dolls?

- Can we always say whether someone is male or female?

- Are differences between men and women just differences of degree?

- Are differences between people more to do with how we're born, or what we're raised to become?

- What is gender and how can we move beyond it?

- How can we think about the problems of others who are oppressed in ways that we haven't ever experienced?

- What particular problems do women face at Oxford?

- Is gender oppression intentional? If so, who intends it?

- How can we free our bodies from the media?

- How can we become a stronger social movement?

-Does Religion help or hinder gender equality?

-Is Humanism our best chance for equality?

-Does second income earner mean second class citizen in the family and in society?
